Front Porch lighting

I took these earlier this month, when I was playing with my newly-rediscovered manual lens off the Nikon 35mm camera I’ve had since high school.   For the first one I had the lights on in the office.

For the second one I turned off all the lights in the house, the only light came from the street lamp right on my property line.

And for this last one I turned on the green light in the ceiling fan on the porch.

On nice warm summer nights I love to sit on the porch with all the lights off and watch the cars drive by, wondering where they are going and why they are in such a hurry.

If you are interested in all the other “Playing with light” photos or entering your own (and you should be), click on the banner below and join in the fun.

I was thinking about going with a red light, but decided would be better.

Much safer to go with green, Max. Very restfull.

Yup, you never know what kind of people would show up on the front porch with a red light.

Oh I enjoyed those twists in lighting...and I remember the photo, I liked it the first time and all these other playing with light moments! It's very cool to sit back and watch the people go by and wonder about this and that....if you have the right place to do it....and that place rocks!

Yeah, the front porch is pretty cool. That's my Nonni's porch swing, I got it from my brother who inherited it from her. Pretty private and comfortable.

Whatever the lighting conditions, your porch looks like a delightful place to spend time.

Note to self: Next house must have a really great porch! (For some reason, it's not as prevalent here in Canada as it should be. I'm guessing because of our winters, but still...)

Front porches aren't that common here either, at least ones that are big enough to use for more than just waiting for the front door to open. A lot of the older houses, late 1800's to 1940's, are the ones with nice front porches. They kind of disappeared off houses in the 50's and only recently made a weak comeback on a small portion of new homes. Too bad, because that was one of my requirements when I was looking for a home.

That is some porch! I've never seen a porch like that in the UK - not that is big enough to sit in, anyway.

It could have something to do with the fact the weather is quite often wet and drear!

But I like the green one - a red light would definitely attract the wrong sort of visitors!
