Seventh period I was walking down the rows to see which kids had done their homework. I get to Nathan and he’s flipping through his book, looking furiously for something. I watch for about 45 seconds, which in a middle school classroom can seem like an eternity, and then ask him “Did you do the homework?”
Totally deadpan, still flipping pages, he answers “No.”

Well, brownie points for not giving you a stupid lie.
True, he never actually said he was looking for the assignment, so he never really lied. That's what was so funny about the whole thing.
To quote the middle school "Best Kid ever!!! Now that takes courage, now if only he felt just bad enough to make sure he gets his homework completed for you next time. I have a nephew who serves weekends in the National Guard and owns and runs his own company but, BUT, he refused to ever do his homework, (at home) He was/is a smart boy, could do it, but he had after school sports and only did his homework in school (of course he did most of it IN school) as his mother told me....instead of goofing around....
