Greyish Bonneville.

Nope, that little grey Subaru isn’t racing around on a snow packed parking lot.  Last time I was out at the Bonneville Salt Flats it was a grey day, but I still had fun.

Watching the cars racing around out there.  It wasn’t during the official races at the flats, but I’d bet most weekends you can find someone out there just pushing their car to it’s limits.

Of course you have to take into account that the underside of your car is going to be crusted with salt when you’re done.  Salt and cars don’t mix too well, gotta make sure you thoroughly clean the underside afterwards.

I think I'd enjoy a go of it out there too, at least once....just for the fun of it! Your photos here make it look worth trying!

Definitely a place to visit if you ever get out here. If at all possible go out in the middle of the night when the sky is clear and there is a full moon. Very other-worldly experience. (And Wendover, NV is only 15 minutes away, you wouldn't have to drive back to SLC in the middle of the night.)

Yup. Definitely grey. :)

We had to drive to SLC a few years ago and had to drive past the Bonneville Salt Flats. It was The.Most.Boring.Drive.Ever.

But did you set the world speed record for a greyish Subaru, Max?

Soapbox - Yeah, the fun is in being on the salt flats.
Bob - No, no records set, but I got a lot of good pictures of people trying.

It was a long time ago that I was in Utah, but we go to Nevada more often and should probably map out a road trip....when living in Michigan we used to Dune Buggy often....and just walking in some of that sand can be a workout! Looking at the swirls in your photos I just know it's got to a thrill!

A site I want to see - or drive on/in - salt flats! Enjoyed the pics!

The good thing about the salt is that it's quite crusty and hard, so you don't sink into it like you do with sand. Makes it pretty easy to walk on.

A far better way then how tired you can get walking for long periods in some of that sand....and the constant slipping in deeper....although riding in the dune buggies is fun!
