Merry Christmas - and quit buying so much crap.

I got my first Christmas cards for the season today, 3 of them at once. Many of you may not know this, but as someone who was raised by two atheists, I didn't celebrate Christmas until Alex got married and his wife Marijke brought it into the family. So, despite having celebrated it at some level for the last 3 decades, I simply don't do Christmas well. I don't think I've ever sent out Christmas cards, I've probably had my own tree twice (only once in the 15 years I've been in this house) and I pretty much have to be assigned someone to buy gifts for or I just won't get any. So, I want to thank all you people who continue to send me Christmas cards year after year despite never getting one from me. I truly appreciate it. And even if you haven't sent me a card every year, I still wish ya a
!Merry Christmas!

So, was it the pagan element (trees, gifts, Dec. 25, candles, bonfires, holly, mistletoe, etc.) to which your parents objected or the Christian one (nativity scenes and candy canes would about wrap up the Christian side of Christmas -- oh, and Santa Clause, since he comes from St. Nicholas)? I've never heard of atheists objecting to paganism before, but then it's not like I interview atheists regularly or anything....
Just wondering if they objected to polytheism as much as monotheism -- or more, since there are more gods to deal with in the former.

Sigh.
typo: Santa Claus, not clause.
It's been a long day.

To be honest, I don't know if it was just the Christian aspect of the holiday, or both Christian and pagan. I don't remember any big issue made about our lack of Christmas, more of simply ignoring the holiday. I did get the explanation that we didn't beleive in religion when I asked why we didn't celebrate, and although I don't remember the mention of paganism, my mother's Jewish background and a lack of beliein that also was mentioned.
