Ahhh, the good old days. Gas @ $1.80 a gallon, minimum wage @$3.65

Ok, quiz time. Do you know what the letters BBS stand for? You, in the back with the wrench hanging from your ear....Nope, I'm talking before Boy Band Singers.....Yes you? Oh, the contractions are only 4 minutes apart? Is your mom sober yet? Think you can make it until 3rd period? Good. No, I'm talking about Bulletin Board Systems, the fetal period of the public internet. If you have no idea or don't care about what I'm talking about, then just move along. If you remember it, or want to get an idea about what it was like before DSL, terrabytes, http://www.anything.whatever or Windows 95, have I got the blog for you. An old friend of mine from a BBS called "The Motel West" has a blog about the good old days. He doesn't post a whole hell of a lot, but for me it brings back some fond memories. Check it out, or not, the choice is yours....

I'm 7 hours ahead of you, so it was 7:23 AM Saturday, and I was checking my blog before going to breakfast. You, on the other hand, were indeed up late.

So, lets see here. (clickity click) If I work 1 hour at minimum wage (click click) back in the "good old days" (clickity whamp)I could buy 2.03 gallons of gas. Oh-kay.

Now, with the federal minimum wage at $6.55 (clickity click)and I work 1 hour (click click)and gas in Utah is about $4.11 a gallon (clickity whamp) I could buy 1.59 gallons of gas. Oh-kay.

So, Mulder and Scully were right, it is a Government Conspiricy(tm)!! Enda, get the tin-foil, it is time to make some hats!!!

And think of this, when I first started driving, I was earning $1.65 an hour, and gas was $.53 a gallon - that means one hour bought you over 3 gallons of gas. Of course, if you figure in gas mileage, at 9 MPG my 72 Wagon gets, that hour buys you 27 miles. Cars today get, oh I'd say an average of 25 MPG city, which means one hour buys you almost 40 miles. See the beauty of statistics? I've taken a Government conspiracy to artifically inflate gas prices and turned it into an Automotive Industry conspiracy to bankrupt Chevron. Cool, huh?
