After Dark

Taking pictures at night is challenging.  Which is one of the reason I like doing it.  Seeing what you can capture on film even when your eye can’t see it is fun.  Here are some of the things I came up with.

The Wasatch Mountains.

The moon, taken with my 1000mm lens.

2100 South and 1300 East intersection.

Cars driving down 2100 South.

Students, hanging out in front of the Seminary building at the school star party.

More cars on 2100 South.

Sugarhouse Park.

Can't get the last pic, Max - and I've waited, believe me - kept coming back to the tab to see if it had turned up.

Never mind - the rest are great. I especially like the first one - amazing - and the 3rd, the intersection. Great moody/misty atmosphere.

Alexia - here's a link to that one picture you couldn't get. Hopefully you can see it this way.

Good group, Max, The first two get my vote, especially that moon shot.

Sugarhouse park is always a favorite of mine.... the streets on fire with that blast of glowing red...totally rock! As of course lucky you and the mountains...hmmm what does my skyline have to offer here.... wish we had mountains for the bluffs a bit closer...the moon shot reminds me of science class...not sure why, but it looks ready to sping in place too! So glad you went out after dark to gather these up! ;)

You’re absolutely right about the challenge of taking pictures at night. My little point and shoot has a ‘night snapshot’ setting but it doesn’t seem to produce anything better than my daughter’s phone camera does. These are all great, but I especially like the reflections in the last one.

Bob - Thanks, I really love that mountain shot, it always amazes me how much light there really is even in "total darkness". When I shot that pic I couldn't see the mountains at all.
.
Karen - I do consider myself lucky to have those mountains here there every day, and living 2 blocks from Sugarhouse Park is another one of my perks. Glad you liked the pictures.

Little Nell - You do need a good manual program on the camera to get those night shots. And a tripod. My camera maxes out at a 30 second shutter speed, I've used it on some of my night shots.

Those mountains are a fantastic colour - and a great shot. I love the ones on the road, too - I always like how the lights make streaks!

Yeah, I love the way the lights streak across seemingly free of any car. Glad you like them.

I love the water reflection shots. I always get in a situation where I see a great reflection while driving, but after I park and walk to where I can take a picture, the view is completely different.
