Choices, choices, choices.

I've been coveting this car since it first showed up on ksl.com about a month ago. It looks a lot like Old Blue, and in fact it is. Same year, same body style, same engine and drivetrain. The only difference is that Old Blue is an LTD and this is a Galaxie. What does that mean? Well, the LTD is just an upscale version of the Galaxie, it's the exact same car except for trim - LTD's have hidden headlights, fake wood inside and usually a vinyl top. That's it. Well, today I officially decided against buying the car. See, it was a choice - add another car to my collection or get new windows for my bedroom and a new back door. Home Depot won this round. I just spent $603.43 on three 24" x 24" windows, a solid wood door and a heavy duty storm door, all for the back of the house. Another car or the house? I think I made the prudent choice. Demmit!

Well, if it didn't look so very much like the LTD -- if it were even a different color -- .... yes, I think windows were a better choice here. Besides, Old Blue has such a colorful history that this car couldn't possibly match. It's that whole Johnny Depp thing, I think.

Part of the draw for me actually was to have two different trim levels of the same car. Compare and contrast. I kind of wanted to pull up into my little brother's driveway in it and see how long it took him to realize it was a different car. My guess - 1.5 seconds. I'd even bet that his younger son would notice a difference - 4 years old and he's already a car guy.

Okay, well, color me ignorant, then. It would've taken me weeks to notice.
On the subject of the house: if I'd known you wanted a solid wood door, I'd have offered you the two I have sitting in my basement. They might not be what you wanted, but you could've had a look first before going off to buy one. (Free is always worth considering.)
And what kind of windows did you get? Was something wrong with your old ones?
Personally, I'd like to get sound-proof, bullet-proof glass put in the side of my house that faces the evil neighbors, but it's probably out of my price range.....

Yeah, most people wouldn't notice the difference between a 1969 Galaxie and a 1969 LTD, but then again my little brother is a big Ford fan like me. We used to watch Hawaii Five-0 and pick out the inconsistencies in their chase scenes - where they would be in a 1970 LTD in one scene and then be driving a 1973 in the next scene. And this was before big screen TVs.

Thanks for the offer of the doors, but now I'm all doored out. As for the windows - I got all new windows put in a couple years ago - except for one set. My bedroom windows are a set of 3 small windows, and because of the labor they EACH would have cost me almost as much as the big window out front. So, instead of paying the extra $700 I decided to do them myself. Right now they are old, cracked single paned windows with a couple of layers of plexiglass over them to keep the heat in. They work just fine, i don't think I'll save any heat with the new windows. But 1) they don't open, which would be nice in the summer, and 2) if I pull the curtains back they look, um, well, crappy. The new ones are nice double paned vinly, just like the rest. I won't be embarassed to leave the curtains open when I have people over and I'll be able to open them in the summer. Cost - $90.00 each.
