Scavenger Hunt #3 (for me)

Here we go, these are all pictures I took sometime in the last week.

LIGHTS

This is one of the student’s “Christmas Sweater”.  Granted it’s a jacket, not a sweater, which is why he was disqualified from the contest, but I still liked the duct-tape and Christmas light look.  I saw it later when he had a place to plug it in, unfortunately I didn’t have my camera with me at the time.

TREE

I got this shot of one of the trees out in front of the school from a 3rd floor classroom window.  I liked the way it looked all covered in snow.

BIG

I found a big snow pile to drive up when I was out with a friend the other day.

MAKES ME FEEL MERRY

I may not like the cold and winter is my least favorite season.  Despite all that, I love it when it snows.

ON THE DOOR

Welcome: Enjoy the play and subsequent lung cancer.  There were 5 other doors on the front of this auditorium, I thought it was ironic that they decided to put one of the two warning signs right next to the welcome sign.

I’m Rich!

I recently got this email, and I have to admit I’m flabbergasted.

I can’t believe it, I just inherited 10 million British Pounds.  That’s over 20 million US Dollars.  Wheeeeee!

I know, I know.  You’re thinking “But your grandparents immigrated from Italy, Russia and Poland.  Any distant relatives you might have in Great Britain would be so distant they wouldn’t even know you exist.”

But still, it does say I’m the lawful Heir/Beneficiary, and it wouldn’t lie, would it?

That’s ok.  I’ve already sent them my SS# and bank account # so they can process it and direct deposit it to my account.

And since you’re being so negative about the whole thing, you’re not invited on the two week cruise I’m chartering in January.

Gay Marriage Legal in Utah?

[ Did you hear the sonic boom from Highland, Utah?  That was Gayle Ruzicka imploding when Mayor Ralph Becker legally married two men in Salt Lake City. ]

KSL.com reports that a Federal Judge decided that Utah’s Amendment 3, defining a marriage as between 1 man and 1 woman, is unconstitutional.

[ Do you hear the big sucking sound from Utah County?  That’s the imploded-Gayle-Ruzicka black hole sucking all of Alpine, Lehi, and American Fork into oblivion. ]

Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill said that until he receives some legal injunction, the County Clerk’s office will be issuing marriage licenses to any couple that applies.

Utah Governor Gary Herbert is “…very disappointed…” and will “…determine the best course to defend traditional marriage within the borders of Utah,”

Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker has already performed the marriage of Utah Democratic Party Chairman Jim Dabakis and his partner. (That’s not them down below).

There’s no doubt in my mind that the Great State of Utah will waste a ton of money fighting this.  I’ll also bet that, in light of the DOMA and Prop 8 rulings, this ruling will be upheld.

And for those of you screaming “state rights” and “will of the majority”; I can’t put it any better than utzfan did in the KSL.com comments: “the majority of the southern states still wanted slavery, luckily our federal rights prevailed!!!”

Scavenger Sunday–My Second Attempt

This is kind of fun – going out and trying to figure out what to take pictures of to fit the list we’re given.  Here’s what I came up with for this week.

THE WEATHER TODAY

A weather front must have come in overnight, I saw shadows for the first time in a week.  No, it hasn’t been cloudy all week, in fact these are the first clouds that have come across the valley, and that’s why it was so bleak.  I live in a valley and in the winter we get inversions, where high pressure sets in over the valley and traps colder air under a blanket of warmer air.  All the car, industrial and heating exhausts get trapped along with the cold air and it gets yucky.  Weather that brings the clouds usually brings the winds also, which scour out the valley.  This one was a weak one, but at least it cleaned things up a little bit.

 

R IS FOR…RAIL

The new Sugarhouse Streetcar, just started taking passengers last weekend.  These are either rails that were accidentally bent and left laying around, or some sort of artwork for the McClelland St. stop.

GREEN

Need I explain?

JOY

Ok, not my idea of joy (I don’t like the cold), but they seem to be having fun, even the couple watching them go by.

DRINK

But, a hot cup of coffee on a cold day is my idea of perfect.
