More stuff from emails

One must be ever vigilant. I got this in an email,

It is a matter of history that when Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces, General Dwight Eisenhower, found the victims of the death camps, he ordered all possible photographs to be taken, and for the German people from surrounding villages to be ushered through the camps and even made to bury the dead.. He did this because he said in words to this effect: 'Get it all on record now - get the films - get the witnesses - because somewhere down the track of history some bastard will get up and say that this never happened. All that is necessary for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing'. This week, the University of Kentucky removed The Holocaust from its school curriculum because it 'offended' the Muslim population which claims it never occurred. This is a frightening portent of the fear that is gripping the world and how easily each country is giving into it. It is now more than 60 years after the Second World War in Europe ended. This e-mail is being sent as a memorial chain, in memory of the 6 million Jews, 20 million Russians, 10 million Christians and 1,900 Catholic priests who were murdered, massacred, raped, burned, starved and humiliated with the German and Russian peoples looking the other way! Now, more than ever, with Iran, among others, claiming the Holocaust to be 'myth,' it is imperative to make sure the world never forgets. This e-mail is intended to reach 40 million people worldwide! Be a link in the memorial chain and help distribute this around the world. Don't just delete this. It will only take a minute to pass this along.

and although I agree with it's sentiment and know that there are people who deny the Holocaust ever happened, I just had to check out the University of Kentucky part of the story. So I Googled "U of Kentuckly Holocaust". I only bothered with the first page, because every single one of the 7 sites that came up denounced this as a hoax. [news.uky.edu, urbanlegends.com, truthorfiction.com, adl.org, snopes.com, chronicle.com, hoax-slayer.com]. I included the entire text of the email because I do believe in paying homage to all the people that died in WWII, Holocaust victims and Allied forces alike, and there are morons out there that deny it ever happened. But I do want to remind people that you MUST check out the stories in these chain emails we all get. 99% (my made up statistic) of them are bogus.

Proof that dog really is man's best friend:
If you don't believe it, just try this experiment.
  • Put your dog and your wife in the trunk of the car for an hour.
  • When you open the trunk, who is really happy to see you!
Have a great day...

First of all, yea for Eisenhower. He was wise.
Secondly, thanks for publicly reminded everyone to check the validity of e-mails forwarded. I get the most insane things from people sometimes (especially during election years). (Have you seen the spoof on these types of e-mails? The one that warns about the erosive and corrosive power of "oxygenated hydrogen"? It is funny.)
I am glad that this little gem you've presented is a joke. But at its heart is something equally serious, if you think about it. Someone who hates Muslims and assumes they are all like the radicals we hear about so often has created this to try to convince others to hate as well. The e-mail itself is just as prejudiced as those it claims it is exposing.
Hitle would no doubt be impressed with its tactics, as they are pretty much the same kinds of tricks he played (think Kristalnacht).

On a lighter note, the dogs were funny.
My sister-in-law does this sort of thing to her dogs all the time. I think it's because her own kids are too old to wear costumes and she doesn't have any grandkids yet. So, it's the dogs.

The dogs have my sympathy.
You did bring up something that didn't occur to me. I just wrote it off as another example of some idiot trying to start another rumor. Maybe it was because I wasn't quite awake yet, but the implications of hate-mongering didn't dawn on me. Thanks for bringing that to everyone's attention. Which bears another reminder to think about what you are being told, and it's source, before you think or say "Why those damn ........s!"

I'm thinking that you have neither a wife nor a dog you may have left both in the trunk a tad too long. Hmm?
