Hard pill to Swallow

John Swallow resigned from office.

Not because his antics were costing the taxpayers he was elected to represent a shitload of money.

Not because his office was a laughingstock and having trouble being effective.

Not because it was the best thing for the state of Utah, but because, in his own words, it was costing himself too much money and causing himself too much stress.

In my opinion, he did it because he knew that he violated several election laws and was about to have his election annulled.

And in a final act of self-serving narcissism, instead of making his resignation effective immediately, he made it effective on December 3rd, two days after he becomes eligible for a $12,000 a year state retirement pension.

Makes me want to barf!

Especially since the Lt. Gov. of Utah is not going to push to have his election annulled.

Double barf!

Wrongway Feldman

If that name rings even the slightest of bells, then you are either old enough to have seen Gilligan’s Island on primetime, or you’re from the Nick at Night generation.

I caught this picture at the park the today.

It shouldn’t, but it still amazes me when people think that their time is more important than the walkers, runners and bicyclists that use the lanes specifically set aside for them.

This 20-something girl decided to annoy the other people using the park rather than take the extra 4 minutes to go around the park to the exit.

Now, we could just assume that 20-somethingers tend to be self-centered,  I am just making a mountain out of a molehill, and blow the whole thing off.  Either this was International Ignore the One Way Signs Day or it’s not just an isolated “just barely past teen-age” incident, because in the hour I was at the park I saw at least three other people doing the same thing.

A 40ish guy in a Cadillac.

A younger guy in a Toyota.

And an even older guy (I think, there was a glare on the windshield) in a Lincoln.

I know you guys think that the world revolves around you, and that saving you the 4 minutes a drive around the park would take is worth annoying, endangering and scaring the hell out of the lesser peons that use the park, but I hate to tell you this: you’re not all that wonderful.  Seriously.

Genetic Sludge

It never ceases to amaze me how many people there are that are so much better human beings than I am that they deserve to be able to ignore the rules by which I must live. From the superior human being in the Toyota Land Cruiser to those in the picture here. As you can see, it does not matter that the park service is trying to get the pavilion ready for this season, these people wanted to eat lunch there TODAY! And if they push the caution tape up high enough that they don't even have to duck under it, then it's not really there, is it? So now it is entirely possible that they have undone all or some of the work that the park service was trying to protect, and it will have to be re-done, at your and my expense. I've got a name for them, and it rhymes with "grass poles". Same with Mr. Toyota at Foothill Village yesterday. He's behind me in the parking garage as I try to pull the LTD into a stall, and of course it doesn't fit the first time. So, rather than wait the extra 45 seconds, he pulls behind me to go around - as I'm backing up. Good thing I was looking or his $40,000 SUV would have been several inches thinner, and I would have had to brush off my back bumper. Except that it would have been my insurance that paid to fix his POS, because it would have been me that hit him. Ahhhh, if life were fair the people in the picture would get food poisoning, the Toyota would develop dry rot and I'd win the lottery.

I think I'm going to go fill up the car.......

Short term gain or long term security? This one day gas boycott is a sign of typical American self-centeredness. Let's get those evil gas companies to cut their prices so we can continue top consume gas at our current rate. Let's not try changing our habits, creating a long lasting change in demand for gas, lowering our dependance on foreign oil thereby relieving the power the middle-east has over our country. Not to mention the pollution. But let's face it, if it's going to cost us some of our creature comforts, if it's going to mean we have to give something up, we're not willing to do it. One day, hell yes. Make it a week or two and see how many people pass THAT e-mail on.
.
And on that note, I'm going out to fill up my car.
Ciao.
